Baker Institute for Public Policy
Founded in 1993, the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy has established itself as one of the premier nonpartisan public policy think tanks in the country. The institute ranks ninth among university-affiliated think tanks worldwide, 18th among U.S. think tanks and fourth among energy resource think tanks, according to a 2014 study by the University of Pennsylvania’s Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program. Bioscience Research Collaborative
The BioScience Research Collaborative is an innovative space where scientists and educators from Rice University and other Texas Medical Center institutions work together to perform leading research that benefits human medicine and health. Thoughtfully designed to facilitate and encourage interdisciplinary interactions among interinstitutional researchers, the BRC is equipped for cutting-edge laboratory, theoretical and computational investigations. Research encompasses a wide range of disciplines from chemistry to bioengineering and focuses largely on improving human wellness through science. Kinder Institute for Urban Research
In February 2010, Rice University officially launched the Institute for Urban Research, under the direction of sociology professors Stephen L. Klineberg and Michael O. Emerson, to offer a model of how research universities and cities can work together to strengthen urban life. On Nov. 17, 2010, Houston philanthropists Rich and Nancy Kinder announced a $15 million gift to the university to support the institute’s expanded research in Houston and other major cities around the world. In their honor, the institute was renamed the Kinder Institute for Urban Research.
